SSRR 2014 will be held this year at Lake Toya, Hokkaido, Japan. The
12th IEEE International Symposium on Safety, Security, and Rescue
Robotics will continue its tradition of attracting cutting‐edge papers
in the theory and practice of robots for all types of safety,
security, and rescue applications such as disaster response,
mitigation and recovery; rapid and secure inspection of critical
infrastructure; detection of chemical, biological and radiological
risks, and operations in these dangerous sites.

SSRR 2014 also serves as an entry point for researchers and
technologists who want to learn more about safety, security and rescue
robotics (SSRR), through tutorials and keynotes.

Toyako-cho, symposium venue, is located near Mt. Usu which is an
active volcano and has repeatedly damaged the surrounding area. The
latest eruption was in March, 2000. In order to remember the disaster
and maintain consciousness of natural dangers as well as revitalize
the local community, Toyako-cho has been leading efforts into studies
that can help in understanding how to reduce the effects of disasters
as well as lifestyle changes for the region.
