Introduction  
=========

Robot competition events provide challenging atmospheres for innovation, attracting researchers from multiple fields. A new RoboCup at Work competition will take place during IROS 2012 tackling mobile manipulation scenarios. Three qualified teams will present their scientific and technological solutions for the problem during the conference, from Oct 7-11 in the Aquarius Room of the Hotel Tivoli Marina Vilamoura  - see full schedule at http://www.iros2012.org/site/node/50

Workshop
========
A companion Workshop on "Robot Competitions: Benchmarking, Technology Transfer and Education" will take place on Oct 11, from 14:00-18:00 in the same room. The event includes:

* 3 invited talks by world experts on robot competitions
* NEW: 1 talk on EU-funded research on cognitive systems, robotics and robot competitions & benchmarking, by the corresponding EC unit
* 3 technical talks by the participating teams, describing their approaches
